The Scout Troop
The Scout Troop, (for youths aged between 10.5-14 yrs), is run by our Scout Leader, with an Assistant Leader in attendance each week.
All leaders are volunteers who give their time freely and receive special training for their role. The Leaders are responsible for planning and running a programme of activities and games at Pack meetings and special events.
The Scouts work in small groups called Patrols. The Patrols are identified by different animals and are led by a Patrol Leader (like the Sixer in Cubs).
Activities and Awards
Scouts will enjoy a great deal of fun and adventure whilst in the Troop, which will lead to the award of badges to wear on their uniform. These are given in recognition of the effort made at their own level of understanding and development.
Each year some events and activities are undertaken along with other Troops from the District and County.
The Uniform
Scouts wear a practical uniform consisting of a green shirt or blouse with black or grey school trousers and black shoes. Uniform is available from the scout association, via their website: www.scoutshops.com
Alternatively, you can place your uniform order with your Group Scout Leader.
Scout shirts/blouses are currently priced at £16.50, (payment is required with your order).
We recommend that you obtain a larger size shirt/blouse than you normally would to allow it to fit throughout your child’s career in Scouts.
Your child’s Group Scarf is supplied at their investiture ceremony, with the badges your child will need.
The Awards and Badges
The Scout programme provides a balanced and exciting range of activities based on six zones. These are the Outdoor & Adventure Zone, the Fitness Zone, the Community Zone, the Creative Zone, the Beliefs & Attitude Zone and the Global Zone.
There are many badges Scouts can earn through participation in these zones.
The Scout Promise and Law
Scouts, as part of their investiture ceremony, are asked to make a Promise. The Promise is as follows:
The Scout Law is:
1. A Scout is to be trusted.
2. A Scout is loyal.
3. A Scout is friendly and considerate.
4. A Scout belongs to the worldwide family of Scouts.
5. A Scout has courage in all difficulties.
6. A Scout makes good use of time and is careful of possessions and property.
7. A Scout has self-respect and respect for others.
The Scout Motto is:
Be Prepared.
